Patient Rights and Responsibilities

Visiting the GP can sometimes feel stressful. We aim to make your care safe, fair, and respectful. This page explains what you can expect from us, and what we ask from you as a patient.

Your Rights

  • To be treated with dignity, respect, and without discrimination.

  • To receive safe, effective care from qualified staff.

  • To be given clear information about your treatment and options.

  • To access urgent or emergency care when you need it.

  • To be referred to specialists when appropriate.

  • To see your health records (subject to the law).

  • To use online services such as booking appointments and ordering repeat prescriptions.

Your Responsibilities

  • Treat staff, other patients, and the premises with respect.

  • Attend your appointments on time or cancel if you cannot attend.

  • Request home visits or out-of-hours care only when truly necessary.

  • Order repeat prescriptions in good time (please allow 3 working days).

  • Keep your contact details up to date.

  • Tell us if you are unsure about your treatment or need further explanation.

Zero Tolerance

We will not accept abusive, violent, or discriminatory behaviour towards staff, patients, or visitors. Action may be taken, including removal from our patient list or involving the police.

Confidentiality

Your medical records are kept secure and confidential. Information is only shared with others involved in your care, or when required by law.

Feedback and Complaints

We welcome all feedback and use it to improve our services.

Safeguarding

We have a duty of care to protect children and vulnerable adults. If we are concerned about your safety or someone else’s, we may share information with appropriate services.
