If your injury is not serious, you can get help from a Minor Injuries Unit (MIU), rather than going to an A&E department. Two local minor injuries units are in Ripley Hospital and Ilkeston Hospital and their opening times are between 8am - 10pm - no appointment is usually necessary. Minor injuries units can treat:
- Sprains and strains
- Broken bones
- Wound infections
- Minor burns and scalds
- Minor head injuries
- Insect and animal bites
- Minor eye injuries
- Injuries to the back, shoulders and chest
Kelvingrove Medical Centre also offers a limited minor injury service for injuries, which are not amenable to simple domestic first aid, including for example:
- Bruises
- Bites/Stings
- Sprains/Strains
- Sunburn
- Splinters
- Whiplash
- Minor Head Injuries where there has been no loss of consciousness
- Minor lacerations
- Minor eye injuries
- Minor burns and scalds
The above service at the Surgery is by appointment only
